For someone who never imagined they’d be a fan of fantasy, I am now a lifelong convert. I have read all the Harry Potter books and then some, and recently discovered an addictive new series called A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. I did not think this could get any better until I stumbled across a free PDF version of The Icelandic Book of Magic Spells by Stephen Lawhead on my Kindle. This book is an unabridged translation from the Icelandic Mál og Menning from 1867. The book has not been changed in any way from the original—each spell is exactly as it would have appeared in a hundred years ago. The language is a little archaic but easily understood, and the text jumps right into the story. A young woman travels from England to Iceland to learn more about her ancestors and cure her mother’s madness with magic In this short story she finds, instead, a man who will save her from demonic forces. I was immediately swept up in the story and stayed up late at night finishing this book. It was that good. Once again, Lawhead has written a book that does not disappoint and one that I would recommend without hesitation to anyone who enjoys a good read. For this summer I also downloaded the Icelandic Book of Magic Spells – Apprenticeship – Kindle Edition – Stephen Lawhead – http://www.amazon. com/Icelandic-Book-Magic-Spells-Apprenticeship/dp/0425289906. 5 stars! "Lawhead takes readers on a journey to the Icelandic sagas, where magic resides; an impossibly small island of Vikings and Celtic Druids. The spell book kept in Iceland is not one of academic conjecture, but rather a spell book that actually works. This is fantasy mixed with elements of the history and people of Iceland, and it is absolutely riveting." — Bookpleasures.com The Icelandic Book of Magic spells: Apprenticeship: A Discovery of Witches: A Novel: Stephen Lawhead: Amazon. co.uk: Kindle Edition: Stephen Lawhead : Books The Icelandic book of magic spells is the book that would have been held in my Granny’s hand in 1930 or 40 if she’d had any say in the matter. It is full of spells for everyday use to cure ill-health and injuries, to find lost objects, and to protect against evil entities. This was a lesson in both history and how powerful this little country was at one time, but also showed it still has a vast knowledge of magic even today. cfa1e77820
